The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) has recently approved a policy change to improve access for Athletic Trainers to games and championship events. They are issuing plastic identification cards which will give the holder free entry to events as well as access to the sidelines while their team is playing. The card can also be used for access to regular season games. The cards will be issued annually, and are available to Athletic Trainers who are licensed in Tennessee and cover a specific high school in Tennessee. A team physician is also eligible for the ID card. One card will be good for all events during the year, and remove the need for coaches to give their Athletic Trainers a team pass. If you do not have a TSSAA Medical ID card, you will have to get a team pass from your coach, as TSSAA gate personnel are being instructed to charge the gate fee to any person without a pass, even if they identify themselves as an Athletic Trainer.
