Dear Colleagues,
As TATS President, I want to inform you that I have received a letter from the Attorney General’s office regarding the interpretation of Athletic Trainers’ ability to perform Dry Needling under the current Tennessee Athletic Trainers Practice Act. The simple answer is that we are not allowed to perform dry needling, effective immediately.
As many of you know, we are in the process of revising our practice act, and dry needling is one of the items we are working to include. However, it is crucial for all Athletic Trainers to understand that under the current practice act, dry needling is not within our scope of practice. Please share this information with all AT colleagues and encourage them to reach out to the executive board to learn how they can assist in getting the new practice act passed quickly.
Thank you,
Racheal Lawler
TATS President
